Social games attract all types of players, competitive, dedicated, passionate, and creative. It takes all these types and more to make Mobage the diverse and exciting community it is today. While some of these players are the principal voices in our community, once in awhile we’ll get to talk to a fan who express themselves a little more uniquely.

One such fan is Liana K. a puzzle game fan and talented seamstress. Despite not owning an Android or iPhone, she is an exceptional fan of Viral Collapse, our match 3 game developed by Oktagon Games in Brazil.

I had an opportunity to speak to Liana, and her enthusiasm for the game’s creatures, that you tap in Viral Collapse is infectious, “My favorite virus is the green one, I think it’s oddly adorable!”

While she can only play on her brothers devices, she still spends hours with the game’s friendly little mascots. How? By bringing them to life as hand sewn plush toys. Each Viral Plushy, as she affectionately calls them only take about a day or two to make and are perfect copies of the game’s charismatic monsters.

Personally I’m a fan of the mischievous purple virus who seems to be equally as impressed with Liana’s talent as he checks out his pushy friends from the corners of his sizable eyes.

But don’t fall too in love with these little plushies as they are only a hobby for Liana, and not for sale. As of now the only way to catch these viruses is via the mobile game which is free to download, play and like Liana, love. But watch out - it’s contagious!

Time to Celebrate!

Woah! This holiday season has been busy, in fact all of 2012 has been. It seems like every week here at Mobage we have a new game being released. It’s exciting, if not a little overwhelming trying to stay on top of what to play. But that’s why we’re here.

These games were chosen by you, the Mobage community. Your enthusiasm, comments, reviews, and feedback all determined the following well-deserved awards. We’ve listened to your voices and compiled this list below!

Awards, aka the Bing

Community Game of the Year - Blood Brothers

The fans have spoken (overwhelmingly). Tens of thousands of votes were counted and Blood Brothers was crowned the Mobage Community game of the year. We’d like to say we are surprised, but we’re not. This game is worthy of this crown. The artwork is cute yet badass, and the gameplay is very engaging once you sink your teeth in (yeah, it’s about vampires). We REALLY recommend giving it a go, it has a huge community of players and a game team that truly cares about them.

Best Card Battle - Rage of Bahamut

Rage has been hot this year, which makes sense because Bahamut is a dragon. Somewhere around mid-summer 2012 this game got its wings and blew up. In no time at all it secured some tops spots on both the iTunes and Google Play stores. You have probably seeing the sneering face of Bahamut taunting you to accept his challenge and battle the millions of other players who, admittedly, have a hunger unlike any other players on Mobage. This game is all about becoming the best, you play to win or at least earn rewards. It’s only fitting it receives Best Card Battle game, and is the runner up for game of the year. Rage on!

Best Indie Game - Boney the Runner

When you think Indie anything you think: Unique, original, unexpected, beautiful, angular, boney…? No we aren’t talking about some hot new runway model or up and coming folk/pop band from Sweden. We are talking about our runner game out of Brazil, Boney the Runner. In a word (or three) Boney is awesome! It simply looks great, glossy and rich in color. Boney runs as smooth as the game plays. The fun and love the game designers have for their work is near tangible as you tap the screen and help Boney out run some hungry hounds. It’s fun, good looking, simple and unintimidating. Plus, you get to put your old-school gamer skills to the test. We dig it.

Best Casual Game - Pocket Planes

We are all jetsetters at heart. On the bus, on the couch, at the office we are always daydreaming of being somewhere else, perhaps that is why we love Pocket Planes. The responsible elements of time management are packaged in an 8-bit airline world dominated by an undemanding, humours population. Hey, let’s face it: we like it because we like control. You fly, plan and expand your aerial empire. Pocket Planes has been a go to hit with so many players for so long, it has secured a safe place in big ol’ heart of the Mobage community team.

Best Sound - D.O.T -Defender of Texel

What motivates you to journey deeper into the 8 bit world of Texel? The desire to class up, battle other defenders and build an unbeatable team? Sure, but what really keeps you tapping? The music of course! A mix of a crime show theme song and a grinding, German techno beat, textured with nature sounds fills this game with a rich atmosphere. With every tap and swipe of the screen you feel like a conductor, the sound designer adding layers upon layers of actionable effects. Play this game with the sound up, you’ll reminisce of 80s action movies, 90s spy flicks and modern fantasy adventures. We’d give a cheer for D.O.T. but you wouldn’t be able to hear us under that driving audio loop.

Best Art Style - Fantasica

Perhaps Fantasica winning Best Art Style is another no-brainer. When you have Hideo Minaba, Art Director of Final Fantasy fame, as the game’s artist you are certain to get a coherent and delicate style art. Detailed card images have a hand drawn feel, which translates flawlessly to mobile. The collectionist is satisfied with winning and discovering new rewards, while the art enthusiast is appreciative of the beauty of this game. But don’t roll your eyes yet, Fantasica’s allure is not only skin deep. Sweeping you along with anime-esque artwork the game’s structure is a TCG coupled with a classic-RPG element. If the art style doesn’t completely win you over, the strategy edge just might seal the deal.

Most Innovative Gameplay - HellFire

You are a mobile gamer, you know the tap-tap and the swipe-swipe, but let’s applaud the flick-flick of Hellfire. This game is a little nerve racking as you find yourself so focused on getting the perfect flick, and kicking yourself when you don’t get the critical hit you so desperately needed. In the world of HellFire you are mesmerized with beautiful art that has evocative and magnificent evolutions. The game has such different gameplay from other card games, you’ll forget you are playing one. HellFire plays homage to classic collection games where it is impossible to ignore the attention to details. That is what makes this game so unique.

Hemi: Offsprings of Xana and Theri, they are least prosperous and numerous. They occupy the fringes and are looked down upon by the other two groups.

Who is the hand?

Zar: Once a full member of the resistance now after taking a blast aim at you, is reduced to a disembodied hand.

The story: On the other side of a wormhole is Texel, an 8-bit universe innocent of both death and war. Here, three tribes of immortals live their own divergent lives, until a mechanized invasion from another dimension shatters their peace and complacency.

Can the Texeli set aside their enmities, and untie under your leadership? Will the war like way you teach them ultimately destroy this peaceful world? And who exactly is this enemy so bent on conquering Texel?

Characters: You were minding your own business, playing a mobile gamed— when something pulled you into the screen and dropped you in an 8-bit world called Texel. Beseeched by the resistance to take charge as the commander and tactician, you set out to use your gamer skills and fulfill your destiny as the D.O.T, the Defender of Texel.

Zar: A member of the resistance that you glimpsed in your first few moments in Texel. After taking an exo blast aimed at you, Zar is reduced to a disembodied hand. He joins you on the road in search of the rest of his body and to do recon as needed.

The Resistance: A ragtag of Texeli who put aside sectarian mistrust to unite against the invaders. They are now your followers, traveling companions, and the pool from which you choose your band of fighters.

Xana: One of the three tribes of Texel, and the most numerous. Human in appearance the xana consist of three social groups: Proud and authoritarian gallants, impetuous and sybaritic mages, and ascetic barbarians who revere nature.

Theri: The theri are a tribe of dragons, chimera and other fantastical creatures. Their minds are occupied with philosophy and planetary alignments, the ther exude a certain aloofness towards the other two tribes. They have a chilly relationship with the mages, whose caprice they disapprove of.

Hemi: Offsprings of xana and theri, this third tribe of Texel is the least prosperous and numerous. While not actively mistreated, they occupy the fringes and face continuous repudiation. Gallants, in particular, look askance at hemi.

Exos: Mechanized invaders from parts unknown, so called because of the partially-legible marking “EXOSK” on one of the first arrivals. Beyond their implacable ruthlessness, little is known about them, or their motives for attacking Texel.

Are you interested in keeping your passwords safe? Here are some helpful tips:

Use a password that is unique to Mobage. Don’t use the same password on any other websites, especially forums.
Make sure your Mobage account information is up to date, particularly your e-mail address.
Never share your Mobage password with anyone, including friends or family members.
Make sure your password is difficult to guess. Include a mixture of uppercase and lowercase letters and at least 1 number. All passwords should be at least 8 characters or longer.
